Dear Friends, I am also thinking about a final expedition into the Tsangpo Gorge of Tibet and I have applied for the appropriate permits. The trip to Tibet is to document the Myanmar pygmy people of Tibet and Tsangpo Gorge called the Tarone. There are only 3 known individuals left in Burhma, but I think there may be several hundred in the gorge. I know you are very interested in Tribal people, and this is a very worthy and historic opportunity. China and India just signed a free trade agreement which means the area will be deforested in the next few years. I hope to get there at least to document the Tarone along with two other very rare tribes before the big ax comes down. There are also some very rare and perhaps undiscovered wildlife species in the most remote and difficult parts of the gorge. If you know anyone else interested in these projects, please let me know right away. Many canyons worldwide remained a mystery into the 1990s. The Yarlung Tsang Po, the world's deepest canyon in Tibet was first explored by American, Richard D. Fisher, in 1992. His research and exploration was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1996. This authoritative geographical inventory includes the canyonlands of Tibet and Central Asia, Africa, Venezuela, Australia, Mexico, China, USA, Bolivia, Greece, Ethiopia, Spain, France, Namibia, Bosnia, Corsica, and also includes a wonderful paper on the otherworldly canyons of Mars. Each one of these continents contains not only one or more grand canyons, but in some cases contain many extensive canyon systems. All of these are thoroughly detailed with incredible color photography, 3-D color maps, and in-depth illustrated text covering history, culture, wildlife, geology, geography, and the archaeology of ancient cultures such as the Anasazi, Paquime, and Hohokam. In these sacred spaces you will find the stories of outstanding ethnic local artists and leaders who, through ecocultural tourism, add their much appreciated voices to the global dialog.
Featured are the Yarlung Tsang Po of Tibet, the Copper Canyon of Mexico, the slot canyons of Angel Falls of Venezuela, the River Styx and the Vicos Gorge of Greece, the Tara Canyon of Monte Negro, the Verdon Canyon of France, the Grand Canyon of the USA, the Blue Nile Gorge of Ethiopia, and the Fish River Canyon of Namibia. Also included is the Colca Canyon of Peru, Pilcomayo Canyon of Bolivia, and Tiger Leaping Gorge of China. These canyons might be considered the lost mythical Shangri-La as they are pristine wilderness hidden lands for lost cities, native cultures, and wildlife.
